About Us

The National Council for Hotel Management and Catering Technology (Society) was established by the Government of India in 1982 as an autonomous entity to facilitate the coordinated growth and development of hospitality management education across the nation.

Originally known as the National Board of Studies in Food Management, Catering & Nutrition, the Council operated under the administrative purview of the Ministry of Agriculture (Department of Food). In 1984, it was transferred to the Ministry of Tourism, Government of India, and renamed as the National Council for Hotel Management & Catering Technology. The Council's main office is located at A-34, Sector-62, Noida (U.P.), within its own campus, while its registered office is situated in Pusa, New Delhi.

The Council oversees the academic standards of hospitality education and training provided by Institutes of Hotel Management and Food Craft Institutes. As of the academic year 2022-23, there are a total of 93 institutes operating under its jurisdiction, categorized as follows:

• 21 Central Government-sponsored Institutes of Hotel Management
• 28 State Government-sponsored Institutes of Hotel Management
• 1 PSU-owned Institute
• 31 private Institutes
• 12 Food Craft Institutes

These institutes, under the auspices of the Council, offer 11 different professional programs leading to the award of certificates, diplomas, postgraduate diplomas, bachelor's, and master's degrees.
